Covid-19 Announcement - UPDATED April 9th

Mar. 13, 2020

April 9th

Dear Fury Families,

We hope you and your families, and those close to you, are healthy and safe as we all try to navigate these troubled times.

We would like to thank all of you for your continued patience as we awaited direction from the Calgary District Lacrosse Association (CDLA), the Alberta Lacrosse Association (ALA), Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Government regarding our 2020 season status.

Today the ALA officially announced that the 2020 spring box season has been cancelled. Please read the ALA's announcement posted on the CDLA's website  http://calgarylacrosse.com/article/58843

At this point, Fury Lacrosse has incurred costs in excess of $50,000 for the 2020 season. This is especially difficult for our association as we have only had one season of operation and revenues. We have done everything we can to cut costs, minimize expenses and request refunds where possible. Fury Lacrosse understands the pressures that families are under and as such have made the decision to refund as much of your registration fees as possible. We will be refunding registration, shorts and non-volunteering fees less a $20 administration fee. We will not be refunding the $25 competitive try-out fee as those costs have been fully incurred.

We will begin processing refunds immediately. If you paid by cheque, a cheque will be mailed to you, if you paid by credit card, a refund will be processed on the card you supplied at registration. It could take several days for cheques to arrive in the mail or credits to show up on credit cards. We appreciate your continued patience as we work through the refund process.

We remain optimistic that we may still be able to run a modified or shortened season late spring or summer. We will continue to share information as the situation evolves.

Please stay safe, healthy and optimistic!

Regards,

Kelly Foord

Fury Lacrosse President

March 25th

Below is the update from the ALA on March 25th. Fury Lacrosse continues to work with the CDLA, ALA and other local clubs to develop an appropriate plan of action in this evolving situation.

ALA is monitoring the COVID-19 virus status and recommendations from the Government of Canada and Government of Alberta. Due to the restrictions on facilities in various Local Governing Bodies, the ALA is continually reviewing what the 2020 Box Season will look like.

This does NOT mean there will be no box lacrosse in 2020.  The ALA Board of Directors are pursuing with their Leagues and Club Members alternative programming such as reduced season, 4 on 4 events, club house league, player development camps, hybrid box/field season just to name a few alternatives.  In addition, there have been no decisions on Alberta Summer Games or CLA National Events at this time.

In addition, ALA is optimistic this situation will be alleviated and the regular Field Lacrosse Season will be able to continue.  Information on field lacrosse can be found here http://albertafieldlacrosse.net/

At this time, all “in person” events are still suspended until further notice.

March 17th

Given the prior suspension of all lacrosse activities, the Fury board has elected to postpone any announcements on Competitive team placement until early-April.

March 14th

Pursuant to the ALA's recent announcement we will be cancelling the April 4th evaluation session. Development evaluations are now set to begin on April 5th. Please continue to monitor this page for important updates.

Original Release

Dear Fury Families,

By now, I am sure you have all received a lot of information regarding the precautions necessary to limit and slow down the spread of the Covid-19 virus. We anticipate and understand that you have likely also had various other impacts on activities that you would normally enjoy as a result of those precautions. We at Fury lacrosse have been monitoring the situation and are doing our best to follow the advice we are receiving from credible sources in order to protect the health and safety of our members and community.

Based on the guidance we have received, we are cancelling our Try-it session scheduled on March 19, 2020 and also cancelling all practices for the month of March. In the event the advice changes or the situation evolves, we believe this provides us with the most flexibility to respond.
On March 12, 2020 the Alberta Health Services issued new guidance recommending that all gatherings of more than 250 people not take place until further notice. Later that evening, the Alberta Lacrosse Association recommended that all of its member organizations follow this advice by cancelling or postponing all activities which take place at facilities that have a capacity of over 250 people. This would include our major facilities such as the South Soccer Centre, Calgary West Soccer Centre, Genesis Centre and Crescent Point Fieldhouse. The advice from the City of Calgary at this time is that they are cancelling all activities with over 250 participants and are evaluating smaller events on a case by case basis.

We remain hopeful that with the cooperation of all members within our community we will have the desired impact of limiting the spread of the Covid-19 virus and that we will be able to work in conjunction with the other members of the Calgary District Lacrosse Association and the Alberta Lacrosse Association to conduct the 2020 minor lacrosse season. We will continue to plan and prepare for our 2020 lacrosse season which includes team announcements, April evaluations, showcase try out opportunities and Girls Rock preparations. But we also understand that the Covid-19 situation is evolving and will follow any future guidance we receive from the CLA, ALA and CDLA. We appreciate that this leaves our families with a sense of uncertainty, but we are doing the best we can to continue to follow the most credible advice available, work in conjunction with other stakeholders of the community and our families to protect the public health.

Thank you for your continued support of Fury lacrosse!
